Thursday Report for The Subcontinental, August 15, 2002

This is the Subcontinental Institute's bi-weekly report 
to inform you about the recent happenings at the 
organization and journal in preparation for the release of 
a new publication on South Asian American political identity.

The Subcontinental Institute is proud to announce the 
creation of the following positions within the organization:

Sonia Abraham - Community Organizing Project Director
Sonia Abraham is co-founder of The Gossamer Group, a software 
consulting firm based out of Austin, TX. She also organizes 
and participates in several volunteer efforts including Habitat 
for Humanity, Special Olympics, tutoring of underprivileged 
children, and caring for the elderly. She graduated from the 
University of Texas at Dallas with a B.S. in Computer Science. 

Mahnu Davar - Assistant Editor
For the past three years, Mahnu has worked as a writer and 
publications assistant for the Johns Hopkins' Office of 
Undergraduate Admissions, where he is in his final year. He is 
an accomplished cartoonist and mixed media artist, in addition 
to having published a variety of print publications and web 
design projects. 

Mitul Desai - Director of Strategic Development
Mitul Desai is a licensed patent attorney with expertise in 
the procurement, protection, and commercialization of 
intellectual property assets across a wide range of industries. 
Mitul has served as an Editor of the Journal of Science and 
Technology Law. He graduated with a B.A. from Rutgers University 
and with a J.D. from Boston University School of Law.  

Anita Mehta - Director of Marketing & Public Relations  
Anita Mehta has extensive experience in media marketing and 
non-profit operations, including positions as Creative Director 
at Showtime and Market Researcher at CIBC Oppenheimer. She also 
serves as Events Director of South Asia Against Aids. She 
graduated from Tufts University in English where she 
continued graduate work in the field of Computer Science.

Nirav Desai - Editor-in-Chief/Executive Director
A former software engineer, Nirav has work with a variety of 
non-profit organizations regarding strategic planning and IT 
infrastructure. Formerly, he served for four years as an Editor 
and Senior Editor of Ex Nihilo, the undergraduate philosophy 
journal for the University of Texas at Austin. 

Joseph McElrath - Associate Director/Managing Editor.
Joe continues in his role as operational manager for the 
journal and the Institute. He brings more than seven years of 
State Legislative and management experience to the organization. 
He holds a B.A. from Emory University and an M.A. from the 
University of Texas at Austin, both in Art History.
