Thursday Report for The Subcontinental, August 1st, 2002
This is the Subcontinental Institute's bi-weekly report to
inform you about the recent happenings at the organization
and journal.
NEWS HIGHLIGHTS
On July 24th, representatives of The Subcontinental recently
attended a reception in Washington D.C. for Prime Minister
Ranil Wickramasinghe of Sri Lanka. The Prime Minister visited
the U.S. to meet with President Bush regarding anti-terrorism
efforts and developments in peace negotiations between the Sri
Lankan government and the Tamil Tigers. Journal staff visited
with individuals during the reception to better understand the
concerns that affect the Sri Lankan community.
Subcontinental staff also met with the Press and Information
Office of the Indian Embassy. This initial meeting was held to
discuss ways in which The Subcontinental and the embassy could
support each other's endeavors.
