Thursday Report for The Subcontinental, March 7, 2002
Beginning today, The Subcontinental: A Journal of South
Asian American Political Identity is starting a bi-weekly
report to inform you about the recent happenings at the
journal.
We'll also update you on the activities of the Subcontinental
Institute, a recently formed Texas non-profit that supports
the work of the journal.
NEWS HIGHLIGHTS
The first issue of the journal is planned for release in the
fall of 2002. The author of "The Karma of Brown Folk", Vijay
Prashad, will be writing an article on racial profiling of
South Asian Americans post-September 11th. Dr. Prashad is an
Associate Professor at Trinity College in Connecticut.
Last December, Nirav Desai, Editor-in-Chief of The
Subcontinental, appeared on the University of Texas student
radio show "The Chutney Bubble Tea Half-Hour." He discussed the
importance of the journal in helping younger South Asian
Americans develop political voice.
Mr. Desai also recently finished a west coast trip, visiting
community leaders in the Bay Area and scholars at the University
of California, Berkeley, Stanford University, and the University
of California, Los Angeles.
